In the village within walking distance are two restaurants (Hotel Eskualaduna now with wifi), a butcher, a small cinema, a post office, a train station, (a chugalug to Bayonne and St. Jean Pied de Port) the river next to a Parcours Adventure and a farm for all your milk cheese and eggs. The baker delivers daily to your door if requested.

Just 12 minutes away lies the picturesque ancient town of St Jean Pied de Port ( a UNICEF World Heritage Site) with its wonderful Monday markets, regular pelote matches and scenic riverside restaurants, gateway to the Pyrenees for the pilgrims on the Saint Jacques de Compostella route.

For the young at heart there is local canoeing, rafting, river bathing, aerial assault course, horse riding and wonderful walking.

Basque culture sings and dances its way through the year and the Basque welcome is second to none, especially in our village, “the most beautiful village in the Pays Basque” according to the locals at least!

The highlight in each village being the summer fetes, not to be confused
with the refined English version on the village green!

In the Basque country this can be up to a week of dancing singing eating drinking and sport that will leave you weak at the knees if you try to keep up.

Then next week it’s off to the neighbouring village where they try to go one better!
